Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha

The Singh Sabha movement was initiated with the aim to propagate the Sikh religion into its former glory and bring back to the Sikh fold the apostates who had converted to the other religions. At the time of its founding in the year 1870s the Singh Sabha policy was to avoid criticism of other religions and political matters. In the year 1873 first Singh Sabha was constituted at Amritsar and another was formed in Lahore in 1879. At Patiala Singh Sabha started to function in 1882.

During the initial stage the meetings congregations and other functions were organised in the building of Gurdwara Sahib Sewak Jatha near Anardana Chowk. The above said meetings congregations and functions were very impressive and benefitted so the number of the participants (Sangat) increased tremendously the said space was not meeting requirement and felt insufficient. About Gurdwara Sahib

Maharaja Rajinder Singh offered his services as Patron under whose directions and supervision an edifice was constructed by raising funds from Sikh community of city Patiala on this piece of land. A spacious hall was built and given the name as Rajindra Hall in the token of regard and memory of Maharaja Rajinder Singh. Army men voluntarily participated in the construction of the building.
